Trump supporters were spotted wearing ear bandages at the Milwaukee Republican National Convention. Some people think it’s weird, while others see it as a supportive gesture. Here’s how it went.
Trump Supporters New Fashion Trend
At the Milwaukee Republican National Convention (RNC) this week, Trump supporters were seen wearing ear bandages on their right ear. Not because they had an injury or anything, but because they wanted to “show support” for the former president, Time reported.
Interview With Some Supporters
“Standing in solidarity with Mr Trump” were some of the comments from Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s supporters.
At the RNC
Trump was seen for the first time making a public appearance at the RNC after a failed assassination attempt on his life on Saturday 13. At the RNC, an emotional yet stoic Trump was seen entering as the song “God Save America” played in the background.
Overwhelming for the Crowd and Mr. Trump
The crowd applauded as Trump made his way up and pumped his right fist in the air in the same way he did after a bullet shot off part of his upper ear. He mouthed the words “thank you” to the crowd in appreciation of support and love.
The Ear Bandage
In his first RNC appearance, Trump wore a bandage dressing over his right ear.
Who Started It?
An Arizona delegate, Joe Neglia, wore a fake bandage over his right ear and told reporters at Fox News that he wanted to do it to “honor the truth.”
Represent Unity
Neglia also said that he wore this fake bandage on his ear as a statement to honor Trump and express sympathy and unity with the former president and his family.
New “Fashion Statement”
Like a “fashion statement,” Time reported supporters showing their variations of the wound dressing Trump wore. Neglia said, “I’m setting new fashion ground here.” From here on, more and more supporters and delegates were seen wearing ear bandages.
Size of the Bandage
Trump wore a smaller wound dressing when he was treated after the shooting. At the convention, he was seen with a larger bandage, which everyone took to, and even became a meme amongst some.
Former Whitehouse Doctor
Ex-Whitehouse physician Ronny Jackson told the New York Times that the change in the dressing size was deliberate. The larger dressing was for more absorption and to prevent Trump from walking around with a “bloody gauze” on his ear.
GOP Presidential Nominee Acceptance
At Milauwakee, Trump accepted the GOP presidential nomination. In reports by Fox News, he recalled the day of the assassination attempt and said he would only do so once as it “was too painful to repeat.” Trump said, “I stand before you, only by the grace of Almighty God.”
Devine Intervention
Time Magazine also reported that Trump supporters said he was there because of divine intervention. Trump reiterated that “…God prevented the unthinkable from happening…”
What Some of the Supporters Say
The wearing of their “bandage” was symbolic of their love for the former president. Some supporters expressed that it was their way of showing solidarity towards Trump and their standing with him.
Love for Trump
Other supporters expressed to news reporters at GOP that it was their way of showing Donald Trump’s love and support during this time.
From Arizona
A delegate from Arizona named Ray Michaels said in an interview at the convention, “We realize that this is a tragedy that should never have happened, and we want Trump to know that we are going through this with him.”
Texas Delegate
A delegate from Texas, Jackson Carpenter, said, “We need a symbol about political violence not being acceptable in America,” Time reported.
Merchandize and More
Trump is often associated with the merchandize like the MAGA (Make America Great Again) hats, trainers, t-shirts, coffee cups, blankets, Mar-A-Largo merch, and lots more.
“Trump Fashion”
With the supporters that wore the bandages in their unwavering support of the former president, some even say it could become fashion or part of the Trump merch.
Forever an Icon
In those moments after the assassination attempt of the former president, Donald Trump, his fist raised in defiance, saying “fight, fight, fight” will forever be an iconic memory. Trump also said he knew the crowd was worried and wanted to show them he was fine. He lifted his right fist in the air, mouthing, “Fight, fight.”
More Turning to Republicans
More Americans are turning to Republicans as a potential vote. Fox News reported, based on polls in Texas, another 16% of African Americans said they would vote for Trump, and 45% of Hispanic Texans said Trump had their support. These polls were according to the Texas Presidential Race.
